Sun-fried skin remedy

Friday, August 29, 2008

Despite my copious applications of SPF 70+, sitting in the shade, wearing a hat, AND draping myself with a towel, I still couldn't escape the harsh reality of Caribbean sun. I got a touch of sunburn (sigh) on my chest. What saved me, though, was Comfort Zone's Sun Soul After Sun Body Cream. The lush and lovely cream induced "Ahhhhh" reactions from my whole family… I also love the fact that each purchase of a Comfort Zone Sun Soul products benefit the Tangerine Project--a woman?s project for the collection and commercialization of Argan Oil. Visit www.comfortzone.it to find a store near you!

Beauty Crisis: Colored Contacts!

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Q: I have good vision, but don't like my eye color. If I wear colored contacts, will I have any problems?

A:
Colored contact lenses are a safe way to transform your look, and, YES, you can even wear them even if you have perfect vision! But, to avoid health complications, make sure to attend to your contacts as you would with any other medical accessory. Optometrist Dr. Susan Resnick says, "Even if you don't need vision correction, you must consult with an eye care professional to be properly fitted for your colored contact lenses." See for yourself! Check out www.imakeover.acuvue.com to take a peek of what you'd look like with different eye colors.

How can I thin out my hair?

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Your straighten it, it is a big, poofy mess. How can you get your hair to be thinner?

While there isn’t much you can do to change your hair’s texture, there are plenty of styling tricks to get it looking sleek and smooth. The next time you get a haircut, ask the stylist for “thinned-out layers.” He or she will use special shears to take some of the bulk out of your hair, helping it to lay flatter. When you’re doing your hair at home, apply a straightening balm to towel-dried hair before you blow-dry. Try Nexxus Sleek Memory Straightening Smoothing Spray, $14, drugstores. This leave-in spray actually “trains” your hair to be straighter each time you style it, so it should only take half as long to get the look you want!

Get Salon Results!

Monday, August 25, 2008

Get the Salon Results by not going to the salon and only by yourself

Partially Dry: Flip your head upside down, and blow-dry your hair on medium heat until it's 80 percent dry.

Use Rollers: Wrap two-inch sections around a round brush, drying each section on high heat. Once each section dries completely, wrap it tightly around a Velcor roller.

Shake It Out: Let your hair cool in the rollers for 15 minutes. Then unroll each roller and gently run your fingers through your hair to get perfectly tousled waves.

Apply Foundation Flawlessly

Sunday, August 24, 2008

This is the way you do it girls. Having foundation flawless makes you more pretty.

1.Before applying any foundation, make sure your face is clean - getting rid of excess dirt and oil will help your foundation glide on smoothly and last longer.

2.
Pour a small amount of foundation onto your hand and use your ring finger to dab it onto your face - on nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead.

3. Bleand foundation with a damp makeuo sponge (which creates a natural finish), starting at the center of the face and working outward. Make sure you blend well around your hairline and under your jawline, so your foundation looks totally natural.

try: Maybeline New York Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Liquid Foundation in Porcelain Ivory, Toffee, Honey Beige, Tan, and Light Beige $10 each, drugstore.

Essential Tools

Thursday, August 21, 2008

AN HOURGLASS BRUSH:
The cool shape prevents hair from sliding off the brush while you blow-dry. Look for one with a ceramic barrel. which holds on to the heat from the dryer to give you even softer waves.
try Marilyn Jeli Ceramica 3" Brush $27, themarilynbrush.com

A PROFFESIONAL HAIR-DRYER:

Find one that's "ionic" (to dry hair faster) and thats has more than 1,800 watts of power (to eliminate frizz). If it comes with a nozzle attachment, use it! The concentrated blast of heat will smooth the cuticle of your hair, which adds tons of shine.
try Revlon RV544 1875 Watts Tourmaline Ionic Dryer, $25

What is a good homemade deep conditioner for frizzy hair?

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Homemade conditioner is a fun, affordable way to whip dull, dry hair into shape. For an easy, effective treatment, follow these five simple steps:

1. Mix one small jar of real mayonnaise and half of an avocado until the mixture is a minty green color.
2. Smooth it on from roots to tips if all of your hair needs help (stick to just your ends if only they need conditioning).
3. Put on a shower cap, or, for deeper conditioning, wrap a hot, damp towel around your head (over the cap).
4. Leave on for 20 minutes and rinse.
5. Dry and style as usual, and stand back to admire your glossy, frizz-free locks!

"How can I save my sensitive skin?"

Monday, August 18, 2008

It makes for a classic shade of nail polish and a killer dress, but one place you never want to see the color red is in your complexion. Basic breakouts aren't the only cause of redness and irritation, though—for many teens, sensitivity makes maintaining healthy skin an arduous task.

"Redness has a lot to do with the barrier of your skin," says New York City-based dermatologist Jody Alpert Levine, M.D. "Some people's barrier is not intact, so they tend to lose more water through their skin. This makes their skin more sensitive to breaking down, allowing products to penetrate deeper and create a reaction." Usually, these reactions manifest themselves through symptoms that range from mild redness to burnin, itching and full-blown rashes. When it comes to teens, Levine says they can be highly susceptible to sensitivity—if only for the number of products they test on their skin. This is especially true when it comes to acne treatments, which can often contain harsh acids. "The theory is that people become more sensitized by trying a lot of different products," says Levine. "But you should be under the care of a dermatologist instead of experimenting in the drugstore."

Your best bet is to choose products that are free from common aggressors: soap, alcohol, and fragrance. "Soap tends to disrupt the skin's barrier because it removes the lipids that are needed to maintain it," adds Levine. "This dries skin out, and dry skin gets irritated more easily." Even certain dyes are intolerable for some people. As attractive as that pretty, pink body wash may be, Levine says to skip it: "I always advise my most-sensitive clients to go for white or clear products." Also, because certain chemicals in sunscreens can be difficult for individuals with sensitive skin to tolerate, opt for physical sun blockers, which prevent sun damage with ingredients like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.

According to esthetician Joanna Vargas, owner of Joanna Vargas Skin Care in Manhattan, using skin-care products with soothing properties will also lessen your propensity toward irritation. "Chamomile, calendula, aloe, rose, and argan oil are all great for soothing, hydrating, and feeding the skin with the vital nutrients it needs to be healthy and glowing," she says. For a quick, skin-soothing treatment, she recommends starting in your kitchen. "Brew some chamomile tea and compress the affected area with tea-soaked cotton squares, once the tea has cooled off. This will eliminate the burning sensation immediately," she notes. Then, Vargas recommends applying a layer of organic yogurt over the area, letting it sit for 20 minutes, and rinsing it off with the leftovertea. As she so smoothly puts it—"Your skin will be calm and the redness gone!" image by ~raiyoru

Get soft crimps!

Sunday, August 17, 2008

Use these tricks to crimp your hair perfectly!

Get the look:
1. Mist your hair all over with a heat-protectant spray while it's damp, then blow-dry it and part it on your right side.
2. Separate a three-inch section of hair one inch back from your hairline and crimp it from root to ends (closing the iron for four seconds each time).
3. Pull your hair back and loosely secure it with an elastic. Wrap your hair around itself, then pull is through the elastic again.
4. Mist your style from 10 inches away with a high-hold aerosol hairspray to set it.

Personalize it for your hair type:
For straight hair: Crimp your entire top layer of hair, brush through it, then recrimp the three-inch section.
For wavy hair: Blow-dry with a round brush first to smooth your hair so the crimps look more defined.
For curly hair: Straighten your hair with a flat-iron before you crimp it to make the crimps show up.

For relaxed hair: Hold the crimping iron closed for just two seconds to minimize the damage to your hair.
